Famous Fishing Spots – Umzumbe & Port Shepstone

A bad day of fishing is better than a good day of work.  ~Author Unknown

Stebel Point (S30 37.589 E30 32.694)

Another great deep water spot situated at Umzumbe!  It is a comfortable rock to fish, but be aware that large waves can wash over the point on spring high tides.  Family friendly but take a picnic basket along as there are no food amenities close by.  There is a public swimming beach close by with toilets and there is ample parking but do not leave your vehicle unattended after dark.

Sandspit (S30 43.846 E30 25.589)

This famous beach is situated to the north of the Umzimkulu River at Port Shepstone.  It is regularly fished both day and night and parking alongside the main road is relatively safe during the day but do not park under the bridge as there is a very high risk of your vehicle being broken into.  Equally famous is ‘The Block’ on the south bank of the river but you will have to drive over the bridge to get to this spot.
