The Hibiscus Coast Ultra Marathon

Sunday the 26th April 2015 sees the inaugural running of the Hibiscus Coast Ultra Marathon. This highly anticipated event is hosted by the South Coast Striders and looks set to become a highlight of the running calendar. The event caters for all distance enthusiasts. There are three distances to choose from, the 48km ultra, a 24km run and a 5,6km fun run. The challenging 48km ultra route includes some of the most scenic views the Hibiscus Coast has to offer. Starting from Southcity Christian School in Ramsgate, the route will take runners down past some breathtaking ocean views then up into rural Gamalakhe and then onto the lush green hills KZN is famous for where you will be awarded spectacular inland views on one side and ocean views on the other. This beautiful race is a comrades qualifier and a great run to try as your first ultra. Africa Bike Week

Experience the Thrill Africa Bike Week™, the largest free motorcycle rally in South Africa, takes place annually over a four day period in Margate, KwaZulu-Natal. Huckleberry is a much-loved bar fly who hangs out at Pistols Saloon. Pistols’ is a wild west-themed pub. That’s right, it’s a cowboy bar.  But, there’s no horsing around at Pistols. Macbanana Butterfly Dome

The Macbanana butterfly dome offers visitors an opportunity to get up close and personal with these delicate insects while learning about their environment. The guides are friendly, well trained and very knowledgeable about the species of butterflies in the dome. If you’re lucky. you might see one emerging from a pupa. We were not so lucky, but it was fascinating seeing the pupae and eggs as the guide pointed them out. Butterflies are incredibly sensitive to environmental change and sadly many of South Africa’s indigenous forest and grassland areas are under threat. Butterflies are dependent on specific varieties of vegetation, or host plants, for laying their eggs, feeding and pollinating.
