The Sardine Marathon & Half Marathon

The Sardine Half Marathon, presented by the South Coast Striders, has been a highlight on the local running calendar for a number of years. Runners come from far and wide to take part in this beautiful race. The race is a challenging one with some serious climbs, awesome downhills and welcome flat sections. The scenery makes it all worthwhile, with some of the best views you can find on the coast. This year’s race sees a few changes to the route, so if you have run it before, take note of the map below. The route is run in the opposite direction to previous years and starts and finishes with some great downhills to get the blood pumping. Starting at South City Christian Schools, with a quick downhill and a meander towards the sea, the route runs right alongside the ocean at two sections before turning inland for a bit of a climb.... read more

Sonny Evans Small Craft Harbour

“You have left your footprints, not only in the sand, but also in the sea”. These sentiments were expressed by the Acting Mayor of Shelly Beach on the occasion of Sonny’s 80th birthday bash held at Shelly Beach Ski-Boat Clubhouse back in 1990. Never were truer words uttered in recognition of a stalwart pioneer, a son of the South Coast, in fact, our very own ‘old man of the sea’, to whom the region owes so much. Long before anyone was enjoying the amenities now provided by the Sonny Evans Small Craft Harbour, this intrepid adventurer would set out to sea from the bay in front of his home to the north of the... read more
