The Portuguese Mariners Food, Wine & Family Festival

Traditional dancing, scrumptious food and awesome entertainment are what makes this event one of the most anticipated of the year. The Portuguese Mariners Food, Wine and Family Festival takes place at the Mac Banana estate from Friday 24th until Sunday 26th July 2015. The event kicks off on the Friday night with a shipwreck party at Fazenda Restauranté to commemorate the sinking of the Sao Joao in 1552. The shipwreck theme of the event is sure to be entertaining with guests requested to wear “whatever they were wearing when the ship went down.” From nightgowns to ball gowns, expect to see it all. Crag’s View Wild Care Centre

It all began in 1999 when Trafalgar resident, Dorothy McIntyre, brought a tiny 360 gm blue duiker calf which had been caught by a cat, to Craig Hosken and Ina de Koker who lived at Crag’s View, in the Port Edward area. Ina and Craig, largely inexperienced at the time in the rehabilitation of wild life, contacted Lyn Milton who ran the Orphanage for Wild Life (OWL) in Paddock for advice. Miraculously, the tiny creature was a fighter and survived the mauling. And so began a journey for Craig and Ina, who both sensed a definite calling to take care of and rehabilitate sick, injured or displaced creatures of all kinds. Riverbend Crocodile Farm

A visit to Riverbend Crocodile Farm is a very popular outing on the lower South Coast.  The beautifully landscaped farm is home to hundreds of Nile Crocodiles, snakes, and birds. Pistols Saloon and wild west museum

Huckleberry is a much-loved bar fly who hangs out at Pistols Saloon. Pistols’ is a wild west-themed pub. That’s right, it’s a cowboy bar.  But, there’s no horsing around at Pistols. The Western bar and family restaurant  has a no-swearing rule, if you let one slip you’ll be fined R2 towards a worthy cause like the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA). The pub also boasts an awesome wild west museum with lots of memorabilia and information about outlaws like Billy the Kid and Jesse James. Everyone is welcome at Pistols.
