The Sardine Marathon & Half Marathon

The Sardine Half Marathon, presented by the South Coast Striders, has been a highlight on the local running calendar for a number of years. Runners come from far and wide to take part in this beautiful race. The race is a challenging one with some serious climbs, awesome downhills and welcome flat sections. The scenery makes it all worthwhile, with some of the best views you can find on the coast. This year’s race sees a few changes to the route, so if you have run it before, take note of the map below. The route is run in the opposite direction to previous years and starts and finishes with some great downhills to get the blood pumping. The Hibiscus Coast Ultra Marathon

Sunday the 26th April 2015 sees the inaugural running of the Hibiscus Coast Ultra Marathon. This highly anticipated event is hosted by the South Coast Striders and looks set to become a highlight of the running calendar. The event caters for all distance enthusiasts. There are three distances to choose from, the 48km ultra, a 24km run and a 5,6km fun run. The challenging 48km ultra route includes some of the most scenic views the Hibiscus Coast has to offer. Starting from Southcity Christian School in Ramsgate, the route will take runners down past some breathtaking ocean views then up into rural Gamalakhe and then onto the lush green hills KZN is famous for where you will be awarded spectacular inland views on one side and ocean views on the other. This beautiful race is a comrades qualifier and a great run to try as your first ultra. Clearwater Trails

Clearwater Trails offers a network of mountain biking trails, that are also suitable to runners or walkers, and a 2km section is available for dog walkers. The figure-8 trail features two dams, and bass fishermen can choose to either drive or walk to their desired fishing spot. Colour-coded loops within loops specify both distances and levels of difficulty for all users, however, regular riders tend to create their own routes in order to add variety and interest to their workouts. Clearwater Trails are linked to a variety of points of interest for the whole family. From Red Desert to Crags View Wild Care Centre, Beaver Creek Coffee Estate, and Gorge View Deck, a mountain biking outing can be turned into a whole day adventure. The Marine Ramble

The Ramsgate marine ramble is a 6 to 7 kilometer walk. The paths are well kept and easy to follow but expect to get your feet wet crossing secluded empty beaches and small lagoon areas. There are a number of places you can start from,  depending on how long or far you wish to walk. Keep in mind that it is an “out and back” trail so you will be coming back along the same route. If you only want to go one way, organize a car to pick you up at the finish. The trail starts from Margate’s tidal pool located about 1 and half kilometers south from the main beach. The first +-3km of the trail is a beach walk.
