Sunday the 26th April 2015 sees the inaugural running of the Hibiscus Coast Ultra Marathon. This highly anticipated event is hosted by the South Coast Striders and looks set to become a highlight of the running calendar. The event caters for all distance enthusiasts. There are three distances to choose from, the 48km ultra, a 24km run and a 5,6km fun run.
The challenging 48km ultra route includes some of the most scenic views the Hibiscus Coast has to offer. Starting from Southcity Christian School in Ramsgate, the route will take runners down past some breathtaking ocean views then up into rural Gamalakhe and then onto the lush green hills KZN is famous for where you will be awarded spectacular inland views on one side and ocean views on the other. This beautiful race is a comrades qualifier and a great run to try as your first ultra. There is a cut off time of 6,5 hours, with 6 hours marking the comrades qualification cut off.
Start time: 6am
The 24km route will follow the ultra route down past the ocean but will turn inland sooner to take you past the Margate airport and back down to Southcity. This route is no less scenic and the climb inland makes it challenging all on its own.
Start time: 6am
The 6,5km route takes a different course through the back of Ramsgate then out onto the R620, past the Waffle House and back up to the school. Participants in this distance will also be treated to our lush coastal beauty and gorgeous views of Ramsgate beach.
Start time: 7am
