Mountain biking and trail running enthusiasts will once again flock to the South Coast in numbers for the annual Sardine MTB Classic held in memory of the late great Burry Stander.
Known as one of the most anticipated events on the MTB racing calendar, the Sardine Classic’s challenging route will test the technical skill and stamina of the most experienced off road cyclists. The MTB trail features challenging single track sections through coastal forests, farm roads, dams, rocky bridges and beautiful Umtamvuna Gorge views.

This year, in addition to the 10km, 20km and 40km main event held on the Sunday, there is an added treat for cyclists, with fun rides starting from the Wild Coast Sun’s Water Park on the Saturday. The Wild Coast fun rides comprise of two routes of 10km and 20km set out by local professional MTB trail builder Jan Abott of Clearwater Trails. The routes take mountain bikers through scenic coastal landscapes and picturesque private beaches. And, as if the thrill of the ride is not enough, all cyclists in the Saturday fun rides receive free entry to Wild Waves Water Park for the day while family members get a 50% discount.
In true outdoor adventure spirit, Trail Runners can once again tackle the grueling 10km or 20km course on foot. Trail runs start early on Saturday Morning with the 20km runners starting at 7h30 and the 10km runners at 7h45.
